She was born in Hawaii, and lived in Germany by the time she was old enough to start school. After four boys, Jordan’s mother was so happy to have a girl that Mary made sure Jordan got to do all the typical little girl things – dance lessons, Barbie dolls and playing dress up. Of course her dolls tended to be friends with the G.I. Joe dolls she stole from her brothers, she often dressed up in her father’s old uniforms and she tended to kick the other children on base in the shins if they called her names, but she still fell pretty firmly on the ponies and rainbows side of the fence. Her brothers found her annoying, but were extremely protective of her, especially after their mother was hit by a car and left in a permanent vegetative state. After a few years of being kept close and watched over constantly, Jordan made a point of proving that she could take care of herself. She shifted away from the things she’d enjoyed in the past, and made a point of doing everything her brothers did – sports, cars, electronics. Even after they moved back to the States, she clung to her dance lessons for a couple of years, and was accepted into a number of high school dance programs which could lead her to a life as a professional dancer. Jordan turned them down, went to the local high school, and joined the Army JROTC instead, a Cadet Colonel by graduation. Her father got an entire military family – a son in the Marines, the Navy (a SEAL), the Coast Guard and the Air force – and father finally a daughter in his branch, the Army, when she went to college on an Army ROTC scholarship. Since what she really wanted to do was be an Army Ranger and couldn’t, because she was a woman, she decided to join the Military Police. Entering the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, she completed the Military Police Officer Basic Course, moved up to a 1st Lieutenant, and ended up in Iraq. It was during her 12 month deployment that she was promoted to Captain. Jordan did so well there that they asked her to consider becoming a Psychological Operations Officer. She wasn’t particularly looking forward to it, but expectations were high, and she was practically promised Major once she was through and had a few months under her belt. Luckily – or unluckily – for her, her mother’s medical condition suddenly changed, and she was put on life-support machines before she could get there. It gave her an excuse to take leave that she’d saved up and take time to think about things. Meanwhile, she had to argue with her father and her brothers about whether to keep their mother alive after all those years, and in the end they deferred to her decision to pull the plug. She’s fairly sure they hate her just a little for it. When she returned to Iraq she finished out her deployment, and then finished her four years of service, and was honorably discharged. She still had four years of Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) service left on her DD 214, so technically she could be called up to active duty again; she just hopes she isn’t. She ended up in Tampa and working for AAA Altmeier Investigations. With no real personal life to speak of, and still on somewhat tenuous terms with the men in her family, she put in long hours and a lot of work, and quickly became their best investigator. Which is why it pissed her off when she ended up working for a professional dork who is completely helpless and nearly gets himself killed on a regular basis. What she won’t admit is that she kind of appreciates the distraction from the fact that she has no life. As she got older she was surrounded by her father and three brothers, and learned to survive rather than indulge in fantasies. She ended up becoming an Army Ranger, and was a weapons specialist, and was eventually recruited to join the town of Eureka. Though initially angry that Jack was made Sheriff over her, they eventually learned to get along. Jo always had a weapon on her (usually several), even when the situation didn’t call for it, and was fond of her body armor – which was understandable, considering how often she ended up under mind control, with her memories wiped, or with constant explosions looming on the horizon.
